Sermon Introduction –
The thief on the cross cries. How often have you called out this way? Jesus remembers all of us, whether we feel it or not. And he promises that he’s waiting for us, just like he told the thief that that day he would join Jesus in paradise. Next week we start a brand new church year, and a brand new time in New Hope’s history. Are you ready?
Introduction to Our Readings –
Jeremiah’s promise of the execution of “justice and righteousness in the land” finds ironic fulfillment in the execution of Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews. It appears utterly contradictory that a king should be crucified with a criminal. This victory appears for all the world as humiliating defeat. Yet through the gate of death Jesus opens the door to paradise.
