A Rough Road

A Rough Road

Introduction –

This week’s readings draw us into the heart of what it means to be held by God and sent by God. We hear the promise of a people carried and claimed, invited into a covenant shaped by trust and purpose. We hear of a grace that strengthens us in weakness and forms hope through endurance. And we see Jesus moved by compassion, sending his followers into real need and real work — not into ease, but into the honest, sometimes demanding places where faith is lived out. Together, these voices remind us that discipleship is both gift and calling: God sustains us, yet also sends us into a world that requires courage, perseverance, and compassion that costs something.

It is into this landscape that Pastor Steve will preach this Sunday. Below is a brief introduction to his sermon,

A Rough Road

“Following Jesus is not always easy. It can feel like a rough and rocky road! What do we do when ministry gets tough?”

As we gather for worship, may we find renewed strength for the work before us and hope for the journey we share.

Introduction to readings –

Moses tells the Israelites that they are called to be a priestly kingdom and a holy people. Jesus sends out the disciples as laborers into the harvest. In baptism we too are anointed for ministry, sharing God’s compassion with our needy world. From the Lord’s table we go forth to proclaim the good news, to heal the sick, and to share our bread with the hungry.
