Third Sunday After Easter

Third Sunday After Easter

Introduction –

This Third Sunday after Easter, our readings invite us to remember how God meets us with promise, mercy, and new life.

In Acts, Peter announces God’s wide‑open promise, inviting all people into new life through baptism. First Peter reminds us that this new beginning is real and lasting, rooted in the living word of God.  And in Luke’s Emmaus story, the risen Christ walks with weary travelers, opens the scriptures, and is finally known in the breaking of the bread — a reminder that Christ still meets us in conversation, in community, and at the table.

As we gather for worship this Sunday, may these stories draw us into trust, gratitude, and renewed faith. You are warmly invited to join us as we listen, worship, and share in the presence of the One who still meets us on the road and at the table.

Introduction to this week’s readings

Today’s gospel begins with two disciples walking to Emmaus, overcome with sadness, loss, and disappointment. They had hoped Jesus, who was crucified, would be the one to redeem Israel! Yet the risen Christ walks with them and then opens their eyes in the breaking of the bread. Each Sunday our hearts burn within us as the scriptures are proclaimed and Christ appears to us as bread is broken and wine is poured. The story of Emmaus becomes the pattern of our worship each Lord’s day.
