What’s in a Name

Sermon Introduction –

Jesus meets a demon called Legion. The name means ‘many’. How many demons do we carry in our bodies? How many systems and practices are filled with demons who keep us separate from the love and grace of God? We pray that our demons are cast out so that we can experience Jesus more fully.

Introduction to today’s Readings –

This Sunday’s texts paint startling pictures of the horrific nature of sin. The church’s repeated celebration of holy communion counters that tragic reality in a continued showing forth of the death of Jesus until he comes again. It is a dramatic declaration of “how much God has done for you.”
