Sermon Introduction –
What does it mean to be faithful with what we’ve been given? God “gives” us our possessions so that we can be good stewards of them. It’s not about owning everything, it’s about being grateful for what we have. Jesus reminds us that we can only serve one Master at a time, and he has given up everything so that we will make him that Master.
Introduction to our Readings –
As we are invited today to consider what it means to be managers (rather than owners) of all that we have, it is crucial to recognize that we are bought with a price. “Christ Jesus, himself human, . . . gave himself a ransom for all.” Apart from the generosity of God we have nothing—we are nothing. By God’s gracious favor we have everything we need.
