Sermon Introduction –
Sometimes the right thing to do is not easy, expedient, or perceptibly right. Eating a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables is not easy, convenient, or apparently even right. But it is. The Mary and Martha story often gets lost in the right and wrong of the moment. Is Martha more right than Mary? In the kitchen or at the feet of Jesus, which is more right than the other? We have some work to do here.
Introduction to our readings –
Perhaps the church, at its best, is “all ears.” God urges the faithful, again and again, to “listen up!”—to heed the word that gives life. So it was with Abraham and Sarah, Mary and Martha, and the early church at Colossae. So it is today as we join the assembly to hear the word of God, the word of life.
